Well I had the pleasure of baking for a family that had just had their son married. I needed to bake enough squares for 50 people. I looked forward to putting love into the baking that they would eat. Love and Weddings are a good thing.
So I picked 3 recipes from my favorite cookbook by Anna Olsen called "Sugar" knowing that they were trustworthy and foolproof. Lemon squares, Butterscotch Bars and good old Brownies were on the menu for the day. I planned out my day so that the task at hand would not seem overwhelming. Here is her website if you would like to know more about her..../http://www.annaolson.ca/
Everything went to plan except when I found out that I forgot to buy brown sugar. Darn it! So my faithful husband and deal shopper was sent out to but that for me. 6 hours later I was tired but happy that nothing burnt and that everything looked great.
Over the years of doing hair I have found that the best way to find out how you did about a service is to call and ask. So I picked up the phone, dialed the lady and asked her how everything went. Well the lemon squares were not great. My no fail plan did not work....the filling had seeped underneath the parchment paper and had become a pain in the butt for the ladies that were plating them.
I am glad that I called, and I worked out a deal that was good for the both of us. Baking and cooking is like that though, days where you can do no wrong and days when you are humbled.
Its OK. Just look at them and then change. The important thing is to change.
